This movie is VIOLENT

*WARNING THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Django Unchained is hands down one of the craziest movies I have seen, and that’s what makes it one of my favorites. It is an action film that is set two years before the Civil war. They say that rated R movies are always the best and I completely agree. I love a movie with a bunch of gore and violence in it because it just catches my attention. Within’ the first scenes there is a man getting completely blown away by slaves.

The film first starts out with Django (The D is silent) being taken on a journey to another plantation while being chained up. On the way there a man in a dentist carriage rides along and offers to buy Django. Things got a little out of control and the Dentist shot the two owners who were transfering all of the slaves while just leaving one badly injured. Even though he still shot the two white men, Dr. Shaultz, the name of the “dentist” still payed for Django to help him out with a job. Later on it turned out that the doctor was actually a German bounty hunter who made a living off of killing wanted men. It turned out that Django was actually pretty good and what he did and had a pretty good shot.

Out to set out and get his wife back from the twisted slave owner where she was seperated from Django a long time ago when their master found out they were in love, Dr. Swaurtz and Django wanted to get into the Mandingo fighting business to get to know the her owner and find her on the plantation. There were two slaves who were forced to fight and boy was it violent. If you didn’t know, Mandingo fighting is when two black slave men have to fight to the death and the slave that wins earns their owner a lot of money. When this scene was going on, many of the people I was watching the movie with had to turn away because it was just so gruesome. One of the slaves ended up snatching one of the eyeballs out of the other slave. While he laid there in agony, Calvin Candie, the owner of Django’s wife, handed him a hammer and said “finish him.” When he was handed the hammer he idmediadly beat the mans head in because if he didn’t he would be killed himself.

The last part of Violence that really hit me was when a Mandingo fighter tried to run away from Calvin Candies plantation. He was fed to the dogs and you could hear him screaming and his flesh being ripped apart. It was really gruesome. I actually squinted my eyes surprisingly, that’s how bad it was. Overall, these were just a few parts of violence from the movie. But don’t get the wrong idea, this was a very funny movie also. Stay tuned for the comedy aspect of the movie.

  1. So tell me whether the violence worked in the movie. Was it necessary? Were there other aspects of the movie that were over the top? How did that affect the story or your enjoyment of the story?

I was one of the ones looking away during some of the violence. You can’t get those things out of your head once they go in.
